Unassigned Subdomains Commandeered by Network Solutions

LANSING, Mich. - Network Solutions has been commandeering unassigned subdomains and delivering link-filled holding pages for hundreds of thousands of sites, according to TechCrunch. 

GotGame.com Manager Win Betteridge told TechCrunch that App.GotGame.com resolves to a Network Solutions page with text links, including "Poker Tournaments" and "Texas Hold ‘em Games." The same is true of any other unassigned sub-domain, Betteridge said. 

Betteridge said her company has spoken to Network Solutions' customer service department a few times about fixing this problem. 

TechCrunch said it does not know whether this is standard practice for a hosting company. 

According to a search on DomainTools, there are 294,438 sites on the same Network Solutions IP address as GotGame.com. TechCrunch said all of the listed sites were unassigned domain names with link-filled Network Solutions holding pages.
