MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Internet advocates for children recently have received a helping hand from Google after an extended hiatus on the subject.

In its official blog, Google mentioned on Monday that it has built video- and image-searching technology for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help the organization identify and locate child pornographers more quickly. The nonprofit organization said analysts will use the technology to identify and categorize files that contain images of child-pornography victims.

"Criminals are using cutting-edge technology to commit their crimes of child sexual exploitation, and in fighting to solve those crimes and keep children safe, we must do the same," said Ernie Allen, CEO of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Google also has introduced an online-safety guide for parents and a YouTube video about Internet safety, according to C/Net News.com.
