Jim Powers to Take Stage with Punk Band Killroy

AVN award-winning director Jim Powers will appear on stage tonight with his recently regrouped punk band Killroy at Studio Suite in North Hollywood.

Powers, who plays bass for the LA outfit, formed Killroy in 1982 with guitarist Eric Troop, drummer Jason Payne, and vocalist Tom Despain.

"We're a bunch of old punkers getting back together to have some fun," Powers said. "It's not like back in the old days when all I did it for was just to do drugs, get drunk, and get laid. Now, it's just for...well, I guess, nothing's changed really."

Powers describes the band's style of punk rock as a cross between the Cockney Rejects and the Ramones. "We're an old Oi band," he explained. "Basically, our songs are about getting drunk and football and old punk topics. We don't sing about saving the world. I figure Bukkake can do that."

Killroy, which toured the States in support of their record, Believe in the Ruins, in 1984, will be performing original anthems such as Fighting in the Stands, Rush the Door, Degeneration, and Out of My Way. The band is also working on material for a new CD.

Powers, a once-troubled street punk, hopes to use his music to connect with today's disillusioned young people. "Kids don't have anything now," observed Powers. "Punk rock now is very passé. It's for little kids. I'm trying to create Bukkake rock for a new generation of discontented youth where they go to the show and just jack off. I think it should be a mosh pit of people jacking off. That'd be very punk."

Many in the adult industry were surprised to learn of Powers involvement with the music scene. "I'm an old punker from the late 70's," Powers sneered. "I was in several bands when I was in high school and college. Then all of a sudden you have to grow up and get a job. I said 'fuck that,' and became a pornographer. I couldn't handle real life. Punk rock and porn is what I'm all about. I'm the original alt guy!"

Studio Suite is located at 4832 Whitsett Ave in North Hollywood and features a full bar.  There is no cover charge for this show.  Learn more about Killroy here.
