MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - A Firefox programmer announced in a blog post that Private Browsing is available in pre-release versions of Mozilla's Firefox 3.1 Beta 2.

"Private Browsing aims to help you make sure that your Web browsing activities don't leave any trace on your own computer," Ehsan Akhgar said in the post.

He further explained that the feature does not keep users anonymous from websites or their Internet service provider, but that it's about making sure "that Firefox doesn't store any data which can be used to trace your online activities, no more, no less."

Akhgar also provides step-by-step instructions on the blog to use the feature.

The private browsing mode - a feature also employed in Google's Chrome and Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 - is often referred to as "porn mode."

The latest version of Firefox is expected to be released to the general public sometime this month.
