PENSACOLA, Fla.
- The Escambia County Circuit Court has set aside 14 days to hear the case of
Ray Guhn (aka
Clinton McCowen) beginning May 5, 2008.
Guhn faces up to 90 years in prison on obscenity,
racketeering and money-laundering charges stemming from his arrest on June 23,
2006.
Guhn and his attorneys say the racketeering
allegations are alarming because they are based on claims that the content in
question is obscene and that actors who are paid to perform in adult material
are prostitutes.
They also maintain that the
First Amendment applies equally to everyone, including citizens working in the
adult industry, regardless of geography. Circuit Court Judge Ron Swanson ruled
in October that the community standards of a four-county area will be used in
determining whether videos Guhn produced are obscene.
