Autobiography Of A Flea is one of the more famous Mitchell Brothers productions, and the film that inspired Nina Hartley to start her career in porn... but sadly, the movie hasn't weathered the 25 years since its release very well. Its best feature is its star, Jean Jennings, essaying the role of 14-year-old Belle, and looking every inch her reputed age. She lives in a mansion with her aunt (Annette Haven), uncle (Dale Meador) and cousin (Joanna Hilden), and engages in a fair amount of sex, some real but mostly simulated, with some of the most famous leading men in porn history: John Holmes, Paul Thomas and John Leslie. The story is told through the plot device of a flea which nestles itself in Jennings' nearly-non-existent pubic hair and reports on Jennings' adventures in the sack. Unfortunately, little of the sex is inspired or inspiring, and most of the scenes last only a fraction of today's length.
There are two reasonably decent scenes; the first with priest Holmes sneaking into Haven's bedroom at night for some surreptitious pussy-licking and mish, and the longish finale, which first has Leslie banging cute brunette Hilden thinking it's Jennings (the girl has her face hidden behind curtains), then later correcting his error with Jennings in mish action on the day-bed, and later, some more horsie with Hilden, all in an apparent attempt to get Jennings married off well.
What is very worthwhile about this film is its phenomenal production values; among the best of the days when adult movies actually had decent budgets. Costumes, sets and locations are authentically Victorian, and a pleasure to watch when compared with most of today's attempts. Autobiography Of A Flea is a piece of porn history that simply shouldn't be missed by anyone who wants to know how the genre, and the industry, developed.
