Reviews

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Playboy has made enormously successful inroads in the video market with their centerfolds-on-tape formula; Penthouse not so much. Now Hustler magazine takes its shot with a brand new series of monthly half hour videos built around that particular month's cutie.

A model named "Sylvie" does the lead off honors for the premier issue of the Hustler Honeys video series. Some women translate very well in the print medium but falter before the vidcam. Sylvie will not be confused with Catherine Deneuve as her intros tend to be a trifle too self-conscious. But where the cards count, she shines beautifully in the featured glamor vignette that makes qualitative use of nocturnal lighting, a staircase and lingerie. Oh, yes. Nudity is featured throughout.

You can tell this tape is feeling its oats and is reaching for a successful formula. Barbii and Patty Plenty show up for a couple of old "Laugh-In" retread joke insertions and some baring of the bod. Nonetheless, by the tone, feel and texture of the program, it's obvious that some real looker named Ty Randolph virtually runs away with the show, and she doesn't even take her clothes off. The manufacturers, VCR, indicate she will be an in-residence feature of this series.

On the plus side is a very sharp looking box cover. But I can do without Sylvie in the Tina Turner fright wig.
