Did you ever wonder what goes into the making of the erotic features that we watch? Did you ever question whether it goes as smoothly in fact as it appears on screen? Did you ever ask yourself if the people are making love or making a buck? Did you ever wonder why I am writing like Andy Rooney talks? Well, The Night Before is supposed to be the story of what goes on the night before the making the "big" production in the careerof Joel Cairo (John "Maltese Falcon" Leslie) and nothing is going right.
To begin, his leading lady is in love and wants out of the business and the upcoming shoot. The financial backer has repossessed the cameras and lights, and since the story within the story is abut Joel's life, the newcomer he has hired to play his first girl has uttered the immortal line, "you want me to do what?" You would think that things are about as bad as they could get, and you would be right. But to the rescue comes Joel's girl Friday and before she gets to do it with Joel and we get to rewind the tape, she manages to get everything and everyone straightened out.
There is nothing monumental about The Night Before. It is above average in plot, and because of the presence of good actors like Leslie, Joey Silvera and Billy Dee, the scenes between the sex work well. And the sex scenes do sizzle often.
