Now before you start grousing, “aw, yulk, Shakespeare!,” let me point out that all costume T & A pics aren’t insufferable, tedious and boring.  Some have actually been competent. Formerly The Secret Lives Of Romeo & Juliet (it’s far more renowned for that title), Juliet’s Desire is a pick-of-the-litter nudie costume pic, but dated because of its parody within a parody framework – lampooning Shakespeare by lampooning the old TV “Laugh-In” format lampooning Shakespeare.  Such as it is with an excruciating number of sock-it-to-me clichés, the film delivers amply on the “B” movie scale-babes, boobs and bottoms with sexy tease segments and torrid (albeit simulated) grinding.

Now, from the pointless observation desk, my guess is that director “A.P. Stootsberry” might be a pseudonym for famous director Bill Rotsler, although David Friedman’s T & A imprimatur is certainly in evidence from the overloaded demographics of redheads romping around naked to the same exact shooting style of Friedman’s Infamous Daughter Of Fanny Hill (also available on the Private Screenings label) replete with the same harpsichord background music.  Even if Friedman didn’t have a hand in it, Juliet’s Desire is a successful homage and a masterful touch, showing how – if you’re going to d a (groan) costume sex pic – you won’t choke in chemise from the experience.
