While screening Sex Beat, I realized this production is the porn equivalent of Spinal Tap. Featuring rock ‘n’ rollers, groupies, managers and the like, Sex Beat somewhat successfully parodies the music world. Yet, while the satire may be weak and the music downright awful, the sex scenes are mostly rockin’.
The “four/four rhythm” (it’s got a beat and you can screw to it) is much like a garage band; rough, raw and strong. No candlelight or soft-focus photography here – this is sweaty stuff. Director Ron “Hitchcock” Jeremy likes to shoot it from all kinds of weird angles. His personal favorite seems to be rotating the camera upside down. This proves to be quite disorienting, but hey, a little style is better than no style at all.
Also worth a mention is the fact that the female cast, while basically relative newcomers, is very good, thereby proving that no every sexvid has to feature the Lynns, Lords, Jamies, Johns and Rons. Special notice is hereby given to Peter North, who is popping up in more and more of the films I have to review. The guy, in my book, is the best-looking stud working and is due some recognition. He must lose five pounds every time he does a sex scene… in body fluids alone.
