With a large cast, that reads like a who's-who of the adult film industry, and provides a showcase for its number one star, why is Gentlemen Prefer Ginger ultimately a bit disappointing? To be honest, I do not know if there is an exact reason. Perhaps it is a case of expecting too much. But with a director of the caliber of Bruce (Wild Weekend) Seven, one expects a high-caliber production. Here, we get one that's only slightly above average.
Which is not to say that Gentlemen Prefer Singer is without merit. On the contrary, there are some intense sexual sequences that border on the raw and kinky. One scene in particular, where Ginger ravishes superstud Peter North on a motorcycle, is an almost-classic. And a lesbian encounter featuring Stacey Donovan is rough, oily, and tender all at once. In fact, Ms. Lynn appears in nine —count 'em— nine-sex scenes... a record, I suppose.
Yet the majority of the sex scenes just seem to lay there, if you pardon the pun. Perhaps it is the harsh lighting which is unflattering to the extreme. Whatever, this takes the edge off the proceedings. While this gentlemen still prefers Ginger, I still prefer Wild Weekend. In the meantime, Ginger Lynn in a mediocre tape is better than no Ginger, if you pardon the cliche.
