What Are Friends For? Suffers many of the shortcomings symptomatic of video features: inexpensive production, unimaginative settings, fairly lax production values, and an amazingly uninspired script.

The gimmick is that two couples play charades, and they have to guess the titles or porn films.  This leads to a little partner swapping, of course, and the next day’s lingerie party leads to a lesbian three-way (again, of course). And so on.  What Are Friends For? has a plot, just a very basic storyline tying together the sex.  Now, if the sex was a little unique, unusual, or especially exciting, these other problems wouldn’t be so bad.  But, the six sex scenes in the tape suffer from lack of editing.  Each one seems to go on forever, with downbeat, slow music and unimaginative camera angles.  And, four of the six scenes take place in the same living room.  By the time we get to the orgy finale, we’ve seen so much of these folks that we want no more!

On the plus side, Tamara Longley gives very energetic head to almost everybody (she has the deepest moan I’ve ever heard), and she and Jerry Butler share two affectionate scenes with a teddy bear. Sheri St. Claire is all right as a cute young thing who giggles a lot. But there’s nothing here we haven’t seen before, and even the attempts at cute dialogue and giggling wears thin.  How many times do you believe someone who says, “But I’ve never done this before!”

What Are Friends For? They’re to tell you there’s much better elsewhere.
