Marilyn Monroe. Late fifties/early sixties sex queen. Tragic suicide. Well, great – so what? What’s this got to do with the film in question, Blondes Like It Hot? Enter Mary Monroe – our feature’s star attraction. Now, if you haven’t got the hint here, please pass Go and proceed directly to Barely Drooling!
Yes, Mary’s quite a ringer for the late Miss Monroe. And yes, Mary does things in Blondes that we’ve never seen Marilyn do. There’s a wonderful lesbian scene, for example, where Mary (known as Olinka in Europe) is seduced in a dress shop by the proprietor. This very nicely played seduction should satisfy all fans of girl-on-girl situations. Incidentally, believe it or not, somehow a mannequin (female one at that) manages to get its hand in the act here, forming something of a megage-a-trois (Do mannequin’s count? I’ll leave the ruling up to you).
So much for the good stuff. On the negative side are a number of long, unimaginative and uninspired sex scenes. Also, the film is poorly dubbed (was any movie ever well dubbed?) And it becomes both distracting and annoying.
