Black Taboo, a shot-on-video production, attempts to be serious, witty and erotic at the same time. Does it succeed? I’ll answer by saying, try Hot Chocolate, directed by and starring most of the same cast.
Sonny Boy, a Vietnam Vet whose only friend is a slightly battered inflatable love doll, returns to his family to engage in some incest, only to find out that these people are not even from his family.
Besides lacking any cohesive storyline or decent sexual encounters, Black Taboo suffers from mediocre technical quality. I could swear I saw a couple of sex scenes repeated, padding the length of the tape. I’ll guess that JVP is capitalizing on the newest trend of all-black videocassettes (Hot Chocolate has been a success) by releasing this one. But if they’d put a bit more money into scriptwriting, they might have something of a coup here.
