There is something disturbingly surreal about performers talking soundlessly (like a silent movie) while the sounds of hands and cat-o-nine-tails slapping against exposed buttocks ring loud and clear. Multiple tracks were used in sound mixing, but only the effects can be heard, with dialog and music reproducing muffled at best.
