The special effects company that was responsible for the pyrotechnics of Wicked Pictures 1998 release Flashpoint wants to give more bang for your adult production buck.
While Flashpoint Effects, named after the Wicked Pictures title they worked on, has been occupied with mainstream clients over the last few years, they've recently expanded to the point where they are now capable of handling additional workload from the adult sector. The company intends to offer the adult entertainment company the same services and equipment they provide mainstream operations under a different company.
The mainstream division of their company offers special effects support for from motion pictures, theme parks, musical acts, and special events. "Just about anything you want to set fire to, roll over, or blow up - that's what we do," Mo Gigbutt, co-owner of Flashpoint, told AVN.com.
Flashpoint Effects maintains full inventory of rental equipment that is used for theatrical and commercial productions such as smoke machines, fog machines, rain systems, flame effects generators, and wind machines. Rental fees vary for each project.
"It depends on the scope of the project. If it's a larger project, most of the time what happens is that the smoke machines and all that end up getting thrown in the package rental instead of as a per unit basis. We usually work with the client's budget and work backwards from there is usually the best way of doing it," said Gigbutt.
In addition to equipment, Flashpoint Effects provides fully trained and licensed operators in each specialized field. "If it's a car explosion you need, we'll bring in a licensed operator who's trained in that background. Our inventory of labor is so big that we actually have been able to ensure that we get the right specialist with the right kind of gag. It makes everything go smoother," Gigbutt said.
Gigbutt, who has worked on mainstream film projects for the last two decades, was impressed with the professionalism of the adult crew he worked with.
"It actually wasn't that much different for us than working on major feature films. We were surprised to find that it was just as professional and as well organized as any kind of movie we've done. The only thing different was that the rolling time was a lot longer. In an adult film the cameras will go for a longer period of time. The only thing we had to get used to was staying that long in the background trying to operate our equipment while they were trying to do their scenes," said Gigbutt.
"Maybe it's our rock n' roll background. The edgier the client, normally the better relationship. You could even say that we specialize in dealing with clients that aren't always the most accepted people in society," he added.
