Talk about audience participation: The Grotto nightclub here wants its patrons as well as its performers to be able to dance nude.
So far, license commissioners have turned the idea down for the club, a popular spot with this city's gay and lesbian community. But the three commissioners plan to have a public hearing on the matter next month.
The Grotto's co-owner, Steven Bandarra, tells the Providence Journal-Bulletin nude dancers would perform for male and female patrons and customers might get naked as well. But he said he would not appeal if, following the hearing, the commissioners chose to let the original no vote be. And he offered to suspend alcohol sales on nude dancing nights - one way to duck needing commissioner approval for nude dancing for everyone, the Bulletin says.
