Biography

A feminist porn trendsetter and body-based performance artist dedicated to creating space for radical love, Madison Young grew up in the suburban landscape of southern Ohio before moving to San Francisco in 2000. Young's work spans from documenting our sexual culture in her 44 internationally screened feminist erotic films to founding the nonprofit arts organization Femina Potens Art Gallery.

Young has curated over 500 performance art and visual art exhibitions through out the country in the past decade, including exhibitions at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Highways Theater in Santa Monica, and The Body Archive in New York City. Young has exhibited Internationally with her performance art, video art installations, and photography.

Young values sexual freedom and self expression of queer identity in her work, and has taught workshops, lectures, and acted as a panelist, on the topics of sexuality, feminist porn studies, the politics of BDSM, and queering the body within the arena of performance art, at Yale University, Hampshire College, Northwestern University, University of Toronto, University of Minnesota, and UC Berkeley. Young is the founder and facilitator of the Erotic Film School, an annual three-day erotic film training program; she is also on the board of Earth Lab, an eco-sex art and activism organization founded by Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens.

Her writings have been published in books such as The Ultimate Guide to Kink, Coming Out Like a Porn Star, Best Sex Writing of 2013 and Johns, Marks, Tricks, and Chickenhawks. Her memoir, Daddy, was published in February 2014 through Rare Bird Lit; her forthcoming books The DIY Porn Handbook: Documenting Our Sexual Revolution (Greenery Press) and The Ultimate Guide to Sex Through Pregnancy and Motherhood (Cleis Press) will be released in late 2016.

Young has been featured for her expertise in sex-positive culture on such media outlets as BravoTV, Huffington Post, Salon.com, The New York Times and HBO.
