Good Vibes Sets Film-Competition Showings

SAN FRANCISCO - Good Vibrations will hold screenings for its second annual Amateur Erotica Film Competition at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Castro Theatre and at 6:30 and 9:15 p.m. Friday at the Parkway Speakeasy.

The screenings will feature eight films by local filmmakers, each between three and 10 minutes long and reflecting eroticism with serious, lighthearted or romantic themes. Good Vibrations Marketing Coordinator Allison Goldstein told AVN Novelty Business that this year's selections covered a wide range of erotic persuasions.

"This year was really exciting to judge, as we got a much more diverse group of films than we had received last time around," she said. "I am excited to report that we have a great selection of hetero-, gay- and lesbian-oriented films."

Goldstein said the screenings also will feature "other surprise performances" that she expects audiences to enjoy.

The competition will have a total of three winners in three categories: Superior Filmmaking, Most Creative and Best Use of a Sex Toy. Each winner will receive $300 in cash, a $100 gift certificate and Good Vibrations goodie bag, as well as "fame and notoriety for years to come," Goldstein said.

Tickets for the Thursday screening are $12 in advance for general admission and $30 for VIP tickets that include a 6:30 p.m. reception with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a meet-and-greet with the filmmakers. Tickets for the Friday screenings are $15 in advance.

The Castro Theatre is located at 429 Castro St. in San Francisco, and the Parkway Speakeasy is located at 1834 Park Blvd. in Oakland.
