Does the idea of alt-porn chicks stepping into the ass-whooping shoes of Charlie's Angels seem hot? We actually weren't sure at first - despite being down with both alt-porn chicks and the Charlie's Angels concept, the combination of the two seemed like it might be either not alternative enough for the former or way too weird and twisted for the latter.

But Joanna's Angels, we're stoked to say, is neither. This puppy is as fun as porn gets, both hip enough for the young upstart set and sexually broiling enough for the 30-plus demographic. And what less could we have expected, really, from Joanna Angel, whose explosion onto the adult video scene this year (she's emerged as a serious contender for Best New Starlet with less titles than you can count on two hands under her belt) has augured greatness to come from the get-go.

Angel wrote, directed and stars in this feature, which turns out to be so cleverly done that you don't even register it completely until you've watched it at least once more. There's no explanation, particularly, as to who Joanna and her Angels are, who they work for, or what their mission is, but none of that matters. All you need to know is that their nemesis is Katrina Kraven, and she's brainwashed Tommy Pistol (via a "magic handjob") to become a raving lunatic running amok in New York City, crooning the praises of L.A. He kidnaps one of the angels, Kylee, and so the other two must rescue her, find Katrina's evil lair and put a stop to her evilness.

Pistol gives a rip-roaringly hilarious performance, making him a standout new performer, and as stated above, the sex is just terrific throughout. Joanna Angel is sexy, smart and a talent to be reckoned with. This is the movie that will put her on the map, and we fully expected that based on the allure of the box cover and word of mouth alike, it's going to be a humongous seller.
